After the match against Athletic (1-1), the Villarreal Manager, Javi Calleja, said that a draw was a good result at the San Mamés stadium. “In the first 15 minutes, Athletic were playing very well, but after that we had the ball, created chances and got a goal. We felt good out there, but when that dominance doesn’t show on the scoreboard, you give your opponents a chance. In the end, I think a draw was a fair result. It’s a difficult ground to come to, against a side that should be higher up than they are in the table and they made things very difficult for us”.
For the Yellows boss, what his team lacked was to finish off the job and score two when they were at their best, but nevertheless he was still very satisfied with the group. “We needed to make it 0-2 as that would have meant we could have relaxed, but as we couldn’t do that they got the equaliser and we were made to suffer a bit. We needed to find our forwards better in that moment but we didn’t have the conviction to do that. Even so, I’m happy with all the players. They had a good game and this is the road we must keep going on now”.
