The Reserves had to win to keep dreaming and that’s exactly what they did. The Villarreal B team picked up a hugely important win, keeping their play-off hopes alive, by beating Espanyol B (0-2) thanks to a brace by Carlos Martínez.
The Yellows, intense and very dangerous in the first half, took the lead after a quarter of an hour through Carlos Martínez, who got on the end of a fantastic pass from Leo Suárez, which he placed to perfection over the Espanyol back line helping to put the Yellows in front.
Ten minutes later, Miguelón got into the blue-and-white area and assisted Carlos Martínez, pulling the ball back to the penalty spot for the Catalonian striker to fire home (0-2), demonstrating his goal scoring ability yet again.
In the second half, Paco López’s side focused on defending their lead against an Espanyol side that took control of possession. The Yellows still had some chances, but the scoreline stayed the same.
