Villarreal Manager, Fran Escribá, was satisfied after the debut in the UEFA Europa League against FC Zürich that finished in a 2-1 win for the Yellows. “They came out in an unfamiliar formation, more defensive and looking to exploit us on the counterattack. And then they got a goal in the first minute”. Escribá assured he is happy with the result and the way his side played: “We created more chances than them. At the break we said that we have to keep attacking. I’m really happy with the win. The team reacted very well”.
Escribá also talked about the rotations he made in the side: “We needed to make some changes. We knew that the rotations perhaps wouldn’t last physically, but I think they held out well. Cheryshev, in fact, lasted longer than expected. Pato too. And the return of Jonathan dos Santos was spectacular, especially his movement and through balls. The team is refreshed ahead of Sunday and we have given much needed minutes to the less regular players. This is really important”, he concluded.
The Villarreal manager also wanted to praise N’Diaye. “It’s very difficult to come back from what Alfred did. That’s all I can say. I’m really happy with his performance. I’m also grateful to the fans for their reaction. Many would have panicked, but we stayed calm and made a great comeback”.
Finally, the Yellows Manager talked about the next league clash against Real Sociedad (Sunday, 6:30pm CET): “It’s going to be a tough match. Real will make things hard for us. We have two weeks ahead with a lot of games and little rest. We are going to do all we can to try to win again”.
