A point which helps Villarreal to keep growing. The Submarine drew against Sevilla in a match in which the Yellows had more than enough chances to take away the three points, but they lacked the finish after some brilliant saves by the rival goalkeeper.
Villarreal started on the ball. Soriano almost opened the scoring in the 7th minute. The Yellows number 20 picked up on the top of the box and shot but his effort was kept out by an excellent save by Sergio Rico.
Fran Escribá’s side kept on piling forward as they had possession. Sevilla were creating chances through their quick forwards. On one of their chances, ex Yellow Vietto went up against Asenjo, whosaved by throwing himself at the strikers’ feet.
Just before the half an hour mark the Yellows had another opportunity. Castillejo went down the right wing and put in a great cross to Soriano, whose header narrowly missed.
Without getting desperate, Villarreal continued in search of their first goal. In the 42nd minute the game’s controversial play came. Santos Borré, who replaced the injured Pato, tapped in at the far post off Musacchio’s header from a corner, but the referee ruled the goal as offside.
The Yellows continued to diminate in the second half. Santos Borré’s right footed strike was kept out by Rico in 55th minute and only four minutes later Trigueros had the best chance for the Yellows. The Submarine’s number 14 hit a good shot on the run into the penalty area, but Rio saved by pushing the ball onto the crossbar. Incredible.
Fran Escribá’s men kept shooting without success. Borré, very active from the moment he stepped onto the pitch, had another shot in 65th minute but Sergio Rico was equal to it again. Villarreal kept going until the end, but they could not put it past Rico.
