The Submarine is a machine. Villarreal beats Getafe at El Madrigal with goals from Denis Suárez and Bakambu and further secures fourth place in the table with only six fixtures left in the league.
Marcelino’s side went in front after only a quarter of an hour in. Adrián played a brilliant through ball, completely splitting Getafe’s defence, to Denis Suárez who set himself up nicely and fired home a powerful right footed shot across goal (1-0).
The Yellows didn’t slow the pace though and searched for their second in earnest. Mario came close to getting it in the 28th minute, but the number 2’s right footed shot, from a corner kick, was deflected.
Getafe were also pressuring hard, but it was Villarreal that had the better chances in front of goal. Next it was Samu Castillejo who came close to making it two in the 32nd minute, he brought the ball down with his chest in the box but pulled his shot too wide of the far post.
The game followed the same course in the second half. The Submarine were just as solid at the back and just as dangerous in attack, although Getafe did put Asenjo to the test as well. The best chance for the Yellows, at the start of the second half, fell to Castillejo again, whose shot was off target after he left his defender for dead.
The uncertainty regarding the score line was put to bed by Bakambu. The French-Congolese striker made it 2-0 as he hit the net at the far post from a corner kick flicked on by Mario. The Yellow number 17 has scored 20 goals this season in all competitions (12 in the league, 7 in the UEFA Europa League and 1 in the Copa del Rey). El Madrigal enjoyed the display. The fans sang Bakambu’s name in unison and finished the match with the Mexican wave. Getting closer and closer to team’s objective.
