The B team are now focusing on the upcoming game against Atlético Sanluqueño after a win in the derby

Villarreal B head coach Miguel Álvarez appeared in front of the media to analyse the upcoming match against Atlético Sanluqueño, corresponding to Matchday 19 of the 2021/22 Primera RFEF season, which will take place this Sunday at 12pm CET at the Mini Estadi. The Mini Submarine will try and stay top of the league after moving top with the win over CD Castellón in the week. Here are the standout aspects of what he had to say:

Available players

“There are a number of the boys who will be with the first team on Saturday, and until the game is over, we won’t know who’s available for us. But we will adapt just like we’ve been adapting until now, and we’ll go out there ready to compete as best as possible with the arms we have at our disposal.”

The opposition

“They’re a team you need to think about in this league. They work very well as a block and they’ve got 13 points away from home, which isn’t easy in this league. I like them a lot as a team, and they’re difficult to face, but it’s a kind of unknown situation because they’ve not been in action for a month. We respect our opponents a lot, we analyse them a lot, but we filter what we tell the boys because teams change a lot and we try and focus more on ourselves, which we can control.”

Recovering the style

“We want to return to play with the same style we’ve always had, as well as getting our defensive solidity back, which is one of the things we lost since we went on holiday on 17th December. Yes, we did beat Castellón, but us coaches aren’t all that happy with the game because we suffered a lot without the ball, and we had some difficulty in playing the ball out from the back, which is something we’re usually very good at. We will return to play like we know we can, and that’s what we want to do.”

Demands

“We praise them when we need to praise them because that also motivates them, but we’re also very demanding because for such young players, it’s important for them to stay on the right path. We’re very happy with what we’ve done, and we form them based on praise, but also based on what we demand from them. Staying towards the top of the table for so long against sides with so much experience is not easy. What the boys are doing deserves a lot of recognition.”
