Manu Trigueros has acknowledged that the defeat against Espanyol is a setback to the opportunity of reaching European position
The Villarreal midfielder Manu Trigueros spoke to the media after the match against RCD Espanyol to analyse the Yellow defeat at the Estadio de la Cerámica (1-2): “It was a hard blow for us. We played at home, the teams that were above us hadn’t won and it was a great opportunity for us to get right into the fight for Europe. It could not be and now we must think about the Copa del Rey match against Girona FC.”
The Yellow No.14 was disappointed that the Submarine did not get an equaliser in the second half, during which Villarreal dominated their rival: “We had turned towards their goal. We had two shots hit the post, and created many chances. We could not achieve the tie and we go home sad because we knew how important is was to get the win today.”
Finally, the midfielder put the focus on the two challenging commitments that await Javi Calleja this week: “We were coming from some very complete performances and it was a shame to not extend this run of positive results. Now it’s time to think about the Copa del Rey and this Saturday we have a very difficult match away at Deportivo Alavés.”
