Unai Emery highlights the importance of looking for stable and constant patters of play against Cádiz
Villarreal CF head coach Unai Emery appeared in front of the media in the pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Cádiz CF (Saturday, 2pm CEST), corresponding to Matchday 7 of the 2022/23 LaLiga Santander at the Nuevo Mirandilla. Here are the key points he had to make:
Getting back into rhythm
“A rest is good. The internationals have been involved with their national teams and we are grateful for that. Now we have to get back to training to maintain some habits that will help us to keep up a good rhythm and be prepared.”
About the opponents
“If you only look at the standings, you think something is wrong, but if you look at the opposition, it’s a different story. Cádiz CF competed well against Real Sociedad, FC Barcelona and Athletic Club, but they were unable to win. They have put in good perfromacnes with disappointing results and in Valladolid they got their first win. For us, it’s an important game and we have a lot of respect for Cádiz.”
Respect and demand
“If we’re not demanding, we could lose the game. We need to find progress and be clinical. Confidence is high, but it has to be based on a preparation and a demand at the level required by the opposition. We come into the game without a win in two games, where we had few defensive errors, but they hurt us. The aim is to minimise errors and be more accurate.”
Number of matches
“Football is very short term and as a coach I live the processes that I have in front of me. Before the World Cup, we will play eight league games, four in the UEFA Europa Conference League and one in the cup.”
