Miguel Álvarez, a Mini Submarine legend
Miguel Álvarez Jurado (Guarromán, Jaén, Spain, 27th March 1958) has extended his ties with the Mini Submarine, who he will be the head coach of for the fifth season in a row. After arriving at the club in 2017, he has become the coach who has managed the most Villarreal B games in the third tier of Spanish football.
The Andalusian coach has managed 129 Villarreal B games, with a balance of 52 wins, 41 draws and 36 defeats. Since he took charge of the Mini Submarine, they have reached the promotion phase for Segunda División on three out of the last four seasons. Only the COVID-19 pandemic, which stopped the season in the middle of March meant that the B team were unable to do so in 2019/20.
Beyond his impressive trajectory on the pitch, Álvarez has also done an impressive job forming young talents from the academy. The Andalusian coach has trained many young talents who have taken the step up to the first team in recent years. Players such as Pau Torres, Samu Chukwueze, Yeremy Pino, Fer Niño, Manu Morlanes, Iván Martín and Álex Baena have all grown under him.
