Villarreal B travel to Butarque this Sunday at 9pm CEST
Villarreal B head coach, Miguel Álvarez, appeared at the press conference ahead of the match against CD Leganés, corresponding to Gameweek 36 of the 2022/23 LaLiga SmartBank season, which will take place this Sunday at 9pm CEST at Butarque. Álvarez highlighted the practicality of the side from Madrid since the change of head coach and the difficulty of Sunday’s clash after their victory in their last game.
Estas son las declaraciones de Miguel Álvarez:
The team
“Llegan muy bien físicamente y con ganas de ir a competir contra el Leganés y con ganas de hacer un buen partido”. “We’re going into the game in great physical shape and we’re looking forward to facing Leganés and looking forward to putting in a good performance.”
Leganés
“The game is a different context to the one we could have imagined with Imanol, their previous head coach. They are a very practical team, who do a lot of damage from set pieces. Despite the fact that they were missing important players, they are a team that were destined to be at the top and that shows you how complicated this division is.”
The performance against Málaga
“Last week different circumstances came together. Collado, Alberto, Pablo’s injuries, Carlo… But we’re very happy with the second half the team played against Málaga. I think we even deserved to draw the game, but the positive thing is that guys like Liberman, Pacheco and Tiago had opportunities and they continue to get more minutes and it’s important because we’re going to need all of them until the end of the season.”
The keys to winning the upcoming game
“We have to have personality. It’s an important match because we are very close in the table. It could be four points because of the goal average. I’m expecting a complicated game because we were very familiar with how they played under Idiakez and now it’s becoming more unpredictable.”
The team’s objectives
“We want to have a second half of the season like the first half. The demand brings us closer to doing things well and to our objective. In the first round we scored 28 goals and we want to equal or improve on this record. We have to keep working to improve in every game and not take steps backwards.”
Close to being the top scoring team in the league
“More than looking at that, I look at the defensive aspect. We have improved on set pieces. With the ball we’re a team that understand each other well, we have a lot of things worked on and internalised, but we need to improve on the off-the-ball aspect when it comes to defending.”
