The B team head coach wanted to underline the importance of making the Mini Estadi strong in this final stretch of the season
Villarreal B head coach, Miguel Álvarez, spoke to the media on Thursday to analyse the match against AD Mérida, corresponding to Matchday 28 of the Primera RFEF, which will be played this Friday, at 8.30pm CET, at the Mini Estadi at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground.
The Mini Submarine coach pointed out that it is vital to get three points at home: “Everything depends on us continuing to be strong at home. We need to string together a couple of wins to gain confidence for these last few games. There are 11 games left and we can’t rewind now. I don’t mind losing three points along the way, because mistakes make us grow, but we can’t repeat them either. We’ve been competing well for the last few games.”
In addition, Miguel Álvarez wanted to highlight the merit victory achieved by his team last Sunday in Marbella (0-2): “I’m happy to win. The three points reaffirms what we tell the boys, the scenario and the context was not ideal, but you have to adapt and of course they know how to do it. Knowing how to play a different kind of football is important for their growth. They showed once again that when they get their act together, they can compete.”
As for their next opponents, he stressed the importance of being serious and forceful defensively: “Whoever is better defensively will win the game. They have brutal potential up front. They are a team that has a goal and that can only be combated by being very strong without the ball. There will be more things in the match, but what is vital is whoever is strong in moments without the ball.”
Finally, he commented on the return of Etta Eyong to the squad. The top scorer of the B team saw a red card against AD Ceuta and was suspended for the Marbella match: “Etta has always been at the highest level. I think he has 14 goals and five assists, plus the help he gives us in moments without the ball. He is amazing. He’s a very important player for us, but it’s also important for the team to see that without him we’re also capable of winning.”
