Villarreal B lose to Yeclano (3-1) after going down to nine men before half-time
Villarreal B returned empty-handed from their visit to Yeclano Deportivo (3-1) in a match that ended up falling apart before half-time. The Yellows were reduced to nine players in just ten minutes after the sending-offs of Requena and Alassane, making a second-half comeback for Miguel Álvarez’s team completely impossible.
The ball had barely been rolled before the excitement at La Constitución began. Under a torrential downpour that barely let up throughout the first half, the Yellows took the lead on their first attempt. After a nice move by the B team, the referee awarded a penalty, and Slavy, with a shot to the left, put the them ahead.
The surprises weren’t over yet, though, as just five minutes later, Yeclano converted a penalty to equalise. The game developed into a match a lot of direct football, and given the high stakes, few chances for either team.
On the edge of half-time, the bad news for the B team began to pile up. First, in the 37th minute, Requena received his second yellow card, and Miguel Álvarez’s team was reduced to ten men. This bad news got even worse when Alassane was also sent off in added time, also for a second yellow card.
Despite the setback, the Mini Submarine didn’t give up and tried to get close to the home area in the second half—Joseda’s long-range shot into the top corner was reached by the home goalkeeper at the last moment—but the side from Murcia were comfortable thanks to their numerical superiority on the pitch, and in the 69th minute, Antonio Sánchez made it 3-1.
Villarreal B’s next match—Matchday 37, the penultimate match of the season—will be on Saturday 17th May against Sevilla Atlético at the Mini Estadi at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground (7pm CEST).
