The Villarreal CF manager is regretful about his side’s loss to Sporting at the El Molinón stadium

The Villarreal CF manager, Marcelino García Toral, was regretful about his team’s defeat to Sporting de Gijón at the El Molinón stadium (2-0). The Submarine manager was clear that this was down to not converting their chances on goal: “We had our chances to score but we didn’t take them and our opponents won. Sporting beat us because they scored two great goals”.

Villarreal have had a dream season, finishing fourth in LaLiga and getting to the Semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League. “We’ll be training lightly this week and next and then we’ll have some holiday time. From now on we’ll try to put together a better squad than this season because next season will be very demanding and to repeat what we’ve done this year will be very difficult”, Marcelino commented.

To finish, Marcelino was optimistic about next season: “In the league it’s almost imposible to place any higher than we did and in Europe all that’s left is for us to play in a Final. We’ll take it step by step. First we will try to put a good squad together and then a good team based on a foundation of hard work, so we can compete at the highest level”.
