The Asturian coach stressed that in order to be a team used to winning, they have to suffer in games like the one against Zamora
Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral said his side deserved to progress to the next round of the Copa del Rey after their 2-1 win over Zamora. However, the Asturian coach also praised the effort of their opponents. “In general terms, I think we dominated the game.
“When we were at our best, they scored from a set piece. In the minutes that followed, there were some hesitation and haste. Then we recovered well and all the players contributed. We created more and more chances. To get used to winning we will have to suffer in games like this. We are very satisfied to have made it through to the next round. Now we have to recover and think about Sunday’s match, which is also very important,” he commented.
For Marcelino, Zamora were a tough opponent: “We knew that Zamora are a very competitive team and have a positive dynamic. They played very deep and did very well trying to take advantage of counter-attacks. They showed that they are a good team and that they are sure to fight for their objective this season. I had the feeling that the equaliser was going to come because the persistence was evident. You always have that confidence because we were very close to the opponent’s goal. The goal came, which is the important thing. At 1-2 we had counter-attacks to kill the game off. Overall, I’m happy.”
Finally, the Asturian coach was optimistic ahead of the Yellows’ next match against CA Osasuna at the Estadio de la Cerámica (Sunday, 2pm): “It’s always better to start a match with a win. We have to correct our shortcomings and recover physically in these four days, which I think is enough time. We will try to beat Osasuna and this extra time should not be an excuse.”
