The Asturian coach acknowledges the superiority of the Madrid side and already looks ahead to Sunday’s clash against Atlético
Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral spoke to the media to analyse the Yellow Submarine’s defeat against Rayo Vallecano (2-0) at the Estadio de Vallecas.
“Rayo were superior and deservedly won. We started well, but the first goal hurt us. We lacked depth and the ability to finish. In the second half, after a mistake, they made it 2-0, and only in the final stages did we manage to create chances. We congratulate them on the victory,” said the Villarreal coach.
Regarding the battle for third place, Marcelino lamented not picking up points against Sevilla or Rayo, which forces the Submarine to beat Atlético to secure it. “We depended on ourselves and we still do. But taking only one point from the last nine denies us something we could already have achieved. It wasn’t to be, so we’ll have to fight it out against them. That match will determine who finishes third and who finishes fourth,” he added.
Finally, Marcelino congratulated Willy Kambwala and Logan Costa on their returns to action: “That’s very good news. Both deserved those minutes. They’ve suffered serious injuries and we’re all very happy to see them back playing.”
