The manager is sorry to have so many injuries in defence as they go to Eibar
This afternoon Villarreal CF manager, Marcelino García Toral, assured that Sunday’s match against Eibar (Ipurua stadium, 6:15pm CET) is very important to secure fourth place in the table. “The pitch dimensions and the way Eibar play will mean the game will develop quickly. It’s the same as when you go to the Vallecas stadium. The team that defends counter attacks better, as well as being clinical, will win. We hope to be consistent in this important match”, he commented.
The manager believes that to win in the Ipurua stadium would be a big step towards achieving their aim. “Football never goes to plan. We have come close to winning away from home in the last few matches, but that’s history now. The important thing is that if we beat Eibar it would be a big step for us. We have to go there to win, with ambition and making sure we’re concentrated”, he asserted.
According to Marcelino, the team is really looking forward to getting back to competing after the break in the league due to international fixtures, but he’s sorry to have so many players out: “We all can’t wait to get back to competing. We hope we don’t have to face any more adversity. In defence we’re really low on numbers as Mario, Bonera, Musacchio and Jaume Costa are all out”.
In spite of this, Marcelino is optimistic: “We only have four defenders to face Eibar and they’re going to play. We have to keep going. It’s just another hurdle that we have to get over”.
To finish, the manager praised Bruno Soriano, who will take over Marcos Senna (363) as the footballer to play the most official matches for the Yellows if he plays against Eibar: “Bruno has spent his whole career at Villarreal and is the right person to overtake Senna. He is from here and roots are strong. I’m sure that Senna is also happy that it will be Bruno who breaks his record. And we hope that Bruno plays many more matches for this club”.
