Villarreal CF once more face the Red Devils after meeting in the UEFA Europa League final last season
With the memory of Gdansk still fresh in the Yellows’ minds, Villarreal CF once more will face Mancehster United. Four months later, the Yellows will come up against the side they beat in the final of the most recent UEFA Europa League after an eternal penalty shootout.
Returning to the Theatre of Dreams
The Submarine return to Old Trafford 13 years later. The Yellows will try and get their first victory at an iconic stadium. In their two visits to the ground, Villarreal have been involved in two 0-0 draws. Previous meetings between Villarreal and Manchester United have seen four draws – in the UEFA Champions League group stage – and a win – in the UEFA Europa League final – for the Yellows. The Red Devils have never beaten the Submarine.
Manchester United, an old acquaintance in Europe
When the two UEFA Champions League group stage matches have been played, the Mancunians will become the team from outside of Spain who Villarreal have played most against, passing SSC Napoli (6), Arsenal FC (6) and FC Salzburg (6).
The Red Devils, an imposing team
Manchester United are one of the most imposing opponents in world football. The Red Devils strengthened strongly in the summer transfer window. They added the goalscoring capacity of Cristiano Ronaldo, the defensive leadership of Rafael Varane and the attacking flair of Jadon Sancho to an already impressive squad from last season. These three footballers join a group of world-renowned players such as Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire.
