Javi Calleja underlines that Villarreal must be patient and effective against a compact Mallorca side
Villarreal manager Javi Calleja appeared in front of the media to analyse the upcoming game with Mallorca at San Moix (Sunday, 12pm CET). The Yellows boss recognised that the team is going into the game hoping to get a win before the international break: “We would love to get the three points. They’ve got all their points at home this season. We’re going into the game with the right mentality and convinced by the work we’ve been doing. We’re hoping to come away with a hard-fought win.”
Furthermore, the head coach underlined Mallorca’s good defensive work and solid nature: “They’re a different opponent than from those who we’ve faced away from home in recent games. They’re a compact and solid side. They are comfortable sitting back and attacking on the counter. They are very good at home and are hard to break down.”
To get a positive result in their visit to San Moix, Calleja believes the way forward is being patient and making the most of chances: “Patience is very important. We hope to break down their defence. It won’t be easy for sure because they’re a solid time and they are very good with their backs to the wall. We need to carry on pushing, wait for our moment, and take it.”
He also underlined his happiness that four Yellows players (Pau Torres, Raúl Albiol, Santi Cazorla and Gerard Moreno) have been called up by Spain: “It’s something to be proud of. Everyone in the team is really happy that they’ve been called up. They really appreciate the call-up because they know how hard it is to make it into the squad. Everyone knows that if they do things well for Villarreal, they have the chance of being called up for their national team. Hopefully they consolidate their place in the squad and Spain squads in the future always have our players in them.”
