Villarreal B beat Alcorcón in stoppage time thanks to a late Lautaro strike
Pure ecstasy. Villarreal B claimed their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Alcorcón, secured by a Lautaro goal in the 95th minute. Absolute madness!
The side coached by David Albelda, but led on this occasion by Edgar Chumillas due to the Valencian’s suspension, showed great fight from the very first whistle. Parity was the main feature of the clash.
So much so that the first effort on target for the Yellows came in the 38th minute. Albert García, with his back to goal, produced a fine touch to turn and fire from distance, forcing Ayesa into an excellent save.
The second half was much livelier. Villarreal B pushed hard for the winner and nearly found it through Viveros, whose powerful strike was denied by a quick intervention from the visiting keeper (54’).
Just five minutes later came the game’s biggest talking point. Barry’s header struck the post and then hit Lanchi’s arm. However, after checking the monitor, the referee waved play on, to the dismay of the Submarine faithful.
The game descended into chaos. Alcorcón thought they had taken the lead through R. Llorente, but following another VAR review, the goal was disallowed for offside.
The Mini Submarine continued to push with several attempts from Quintero, but the breakthrough seemed elusive. That was until the very last breath. In stoppage time, Luis Quintero reached the byline and cut the ball back for Lautaro, who smashed it home (1-0, 90’+5’). Three priceless points.
Villarreal B’s next game will be away to Eldense on Saturday at 12pm CEST.
