The Indian footballer will play in his first friendly match this evening at the PAMESA Training Ground

Ashique Kuruniyan, nicknamed ‘Kuru’, has fit straight in to the Yellows Academy. The young Indian footballer, on loan from FC Pune City in the Indian Super League (ISL), landed in Spain on Saturday and trained with his new Yellows teammates for the first time yesterday. This evening he will play his first match representing CD Roda (Villarreal’s feeder team) in a friendly against the Villarreal C team that play in the Third Division. The match will take place at the PAMESA Training Ground (Ciutat Esportiva PAMESA Cerámica) at 8pm CET and will be a great showcase for Kuru.

This is the first time that an Indian player has been selected for a Spanish club. Ashique Kuruniyan is 19 years old and usually plays as a wide midfielder, but can also play up front. The youngster was born in Kerala and has already caused quite a stir in the football world, as he played for the Indian U19 national team in the AFC U19 Championships in Palestine. Prior to that, Ashique also represented India U18s in the FAM-Frenz Asia Champions Trophy, in which he scored a brilliant goal that thrust him into the spotlight.

Welcome to Villarreal, Kuru!
