The right-back has evaluated his current form and Villarreal CF’s good start to the league season
Kiko Femenía has appeared in front of the media at the press ground of the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground to analyse the Yellow Submarine’s good start to the league season and the his personal form at the beginnings of the campaign.
Here is what he had to say:
The best moment of his career so far?
“I’m feeling really good and really confident. Things could go better or worse for me but I’m doing what I’m doing with the conviction that there is trust in me, that I’m feeling good and I hope to keep on improving and giving to the club everything I can give. I’ve always said from the beginning that being here is a dream for me and I will show it until the end.”
Valoration of the start of the season
“The start of the season has been very good. We had a very hard pre-season, we’ve worked hard and we’ve deserved this start to the season. The dressing room, the had coach and the coaching staff are all very happy. We have to keep working and improving, we have room for improvement and we have to face the rest of the season.”
A regular player for Marcelino
“In the end, all the players like to play and for the team to win, and you can’t ask for more than that. I’m playing, the coach can count on me, he’s showing his trust in me and the team is progressing. When the team plays well, you look good and everything works. I hope it continues like this. As for me, I’ll keep working to improve, I still have room for improvement.”
The challenge of being in the top positions
“In the end, every team wants to be at the top and I think we have the squad to be there. But it’s not enough just to say it, we have to prove it on the pitch every weekend and work hard every training session to deserve to be in those places. The objective must be the next game. Now we have a very tough game against Mallorca, at a very tough time because it’s going to be very hot and we have to be mentally prepared to go there to suffer and take the three points, which would be important.”
The new signings’ form
‘”I think we’ve made some very good signings both on a personal and professional level. They are players who need time to adapt but they have already shown in the few minutes they have had that they have a lot of quality and that they can give us a lot on an individual level, and now we need to bring them into the team. The manager is working on it and we, for our part, are trying to get them to adapt as quickly as possible to the language, to the way of life here and for them to perform at their maximum level.”
Defence as an area for improvement
‘The pre-season was very good and very hard, and in the end that makes you arrive in the best condition for the start of the season. What still needs to be improved? A lot of things. In the end we’ve only played four games. It’s true that we have conceded quite a few chances in some games. We have to improve defensively and we are aware of that. Otherwise, we’re happy.”
Raúl Albiol, an example for everyone
“Raúl is a very important player for us. Both on and off the pitch he is a magnificent person. Today he is 39 years old and we are very happy that he is still with us, bringing experience and for us to learn from him is very important.”
