Rubén Peña analyses his first few weeks as a Yellow and underlines that the team is ready for the start of LaLiga

New Villarreal right-back Rúben Peña underlined that both him and his team-mates are keen for the season to start. The first opponent for the Yellows will be Granada CF (Saturday, 17th August): “We’re all keen for the start of LaLiga. We’ve had a good pre-season, we’ve adapted well to what the coach wants and we’re ready for the start of the season.”

The defender is not taking Granada for granted: “We’re starting with Granada, who are a newly-promoted side, something that happened for me last season against Huesca, and we ended up losing to them at Ipurúa. I learnt my lesson from that. They’re going to come full of hunger and excitement, and we’re going to face an intense opponent with clear ideas.”

Peña underlined that he’s now completely recovered from the knocks that were affecting him at the start of pre-season: “I completed the first two weeks of pre-season quite well, but after the Levante match, I had problems with my knee, it got a bit inflamed and was causing me a few problems, so they decided to take it slowly. But I’ve now been working well for a week and a half and it hasn’t cause me any problems, we’ve worked well and I’m now feeling good ahead of the start of the season.”

The quick full-back is confident about the Submarine’s chances this season: “We have an idea of a passing play, to have the ball, but to be attacking and have chances. We must be flexible and have alternatives of how we play, we must be a complex side, a team that the opponent doesn’t know what we’re going to.”

He hopes to have a great season on the right-hand side: “I’m a hungry and ambitious player, that’s what brought me here and that’s what I want to carry on doing. I’m strong and I don’t like losing at all. I’m clear that I’m going to give my all every week to make it tough for the coach,” he commented.

To conclude, Peña underlined the lack of difference between many LaLiga sides: “LaLiga is very even. It’s getting tougher each year for every side. Even Madrid and Barcelona are finding it harder, and I hope it carries on like this.”
