The Mexican midfielder, who got back to play in Málaga, is optimistic about the future

Villarreal’s Mexican midefielder, Jonathan dos Santos, returned to play against Málaga on Saturday. The Yellows number 8 was happy for both the victory and to play his first minutes this season after being out due to injury for over a month. “It has been a month of a lot of waiting, but now I’m back with the team again. I’m happy we got the win and I hope we can continue like this”, he commented.

In addition, Jonathan briefly talked about the Yellows performance so far this season. “It’s true that at the start of the season we had a lot of injuries in the side and some problems, but this team has always been about competing and I think we solved the situation well”, he explained. “The team is getting better and better, more compact, we are not letting in goals and the only thing missing is scoring”.

In terms of European competition he was very motivated, taking in to account last season’s run, in which the Submarine reached the Semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League. “The Champions League wasn’t meant to be, but we are in another great competition, the Europa League, and starting out on the right foot is really important”.

Lastly, the midfielder spoke about the FC Zürich  match, Villarreal’s next opponent (Thursday, 9:05pm CET, El Madrigal stadium): “It’s unusual to go up against a team from the Second Division, but it’s the Europa League and all the teams are tough. If they are there then it is for a reason, so we will try to beat them by playing our game”.
