The Mexican is one of the team’s stand out wide players so far this season
Jonathan dos Santos just keeps getting better. The Mexican midfielder has come back stronger than ever after his injury and his performances have made him one of the stand out players at the start of this season. His creativity in the attacking third is serving to be key for Escribá’s side. “I’m getting better and better, but I still have a lot of room for improvement”, he pointed out.
The Yellows number 8 can play both on the right wing or in the middle, something very important to the Manager. “Being versatile gives me more possibilities to play. I feel just as comfortable as an attacking midfielder, backed up by Bruno, N’Diaye or Trigueros as I do playing out wide, but I will adapt to whatever the Manager wants of me”, he said.
Jonathan had an excellent match in the UEFA Europa League against FC Zürich at El Madrigal stadium, scoring a great goal and playing a great assist to Pato in a 2-1 win. The Mexican hopes to do the same against Steaua București this Thursday (7pm CET): “We expect a very tough match. They were going to play in the Champions League, so we don’t expect it to be an easy game”, he added. “The team is in good shape physically. The Manager is handling things well in that respect. I don’t think this is going to be a factor”, he commented about rotations.
“We need to improve on small details”
Jonathan dos Santos was positive about the team’s performance so far this season. “Everything happened really quickly: the change of Manager, a new squad, injuries… But we’ve moved on from that well and we’re getting better and better”, he explained. “We are more and more committed both in defence and attack. We just need to improve on some small details, like how to finish games off sooner, as we did against Osasuna. We are a team that likes to play the ball around, play out from the back, etc., but always looking to go to goal”.
To conclude, the Yellows midfielder predicted a good season for the team: “We have to think about us, take it game by game and improve every day. We can be in the top part of the table, like many other teams. So we have to take it one step at a time and work hard for ourselves”, he finished.
