Unai Emery has insisted that Villarreal will go for the win against Real Madrid and fight to finish the season in a UEFA Europa League qualification spot
Villarreal manager, Unai Emery, appeared before the media this Friday to look ahead to the final game of the LaLiga season against Real Madrid (Saturday, 6pm CEST). The Yellows boss stressed that the Yellow Submarine will go into the game “with the aim to win it”, fighting to qualify for next season’s UEFA Europa League.
“We want to win”
“It’s our duty to fight for the three points in LaLiga, always. We have to play as well as we possibly can, because there are important things at stake in this game.”
Maximum respect for the competition
“In the conversation I’ve had with the players, we’ve talked about having respect for the competition and respect for our rivals, so this means that we will be going all out for the three points. We have been fighting all season to improve our league position, and we value Europa League qualification very much, so that’s what we are going for.”
Real Madrid, Spanish football giants
“To play against Madrid is special, as they’re always one of the best teams in the world who are always expected to win, something that gives us a great incentive to go out and win ourselves. It makes for a very attractive game.”
Focused on LaLiga
“Naturally, with the season coming to a close, we’re incredibly excited for the Europa League, but we’re focusing all of our attention and analysis on Madrid. Of course, we have the final in the back of our minds, but tomorrow we will be 100% committed to LaLiga, and nothing else. Afterwards, we’ll see”.
High demands against a fantastic rival
“We’re up against a team who are fighting for the title, in a game that has so many variables depending on what is happening at other grounds. They’re clearly going to want to win, so we’re expecting to face a Real Madrid side who will be playing at a very high standard. They have fantastic players, and they’re grinding out important results in their crucial games to keep the pressure on, as we’ve seen against Atheltic Club and Granada in recent weeks. They are a big team with big players, and it’s going to be a great challenge for us, but we’re well aware of the huge task ahead and we’re ready for it”.
