Javi Calleja hailed the great performance by the Yellows and hopes to transfer that to LaLiga
Villarreal head coach Javi Calleja appeared in front of the press to analyse the convincing Yellow Submarine victory away to FC Zenit (1-3): “We came to compete, to play well and get a favourable result ahead of the second leg and that’s what we’ve done. We put in 90 sensational minutes. In Europe, we don’t feel pressure and we’re underlining the confidence we have in ourselves. We showed the very best of ourselves today, we played a great, complete game and we came away with a very satisfactory result.”
The manager hailed the work his side put in: “The boys have been great. Because of that, the match seemed easier than it was. Europe excites us a lot and we want to get as far as possible.”
Furthermore, Calleja hailed the performance of academy graduate Manu Morlanes, who scored his first goal for the first team: “Morlanes’ performance stands out. He never hides. He put on a show of how to move on the pitch and he showed a lot of character. Luckily, he had the chance to score. We want him to carry on helping us and he’s showing all the football he has in his boots.”
Finally, he underlined the necessity to transfer the performances from Europe to the league: “Now we need to rest and think about LaLiga once more. This match should be an example for us. We need to forget the pressure and go into the matches like we do in Europe. We know we’re playing for against Levante and we’re going into the match trying for a win to get out of the bottom three.”
