José Luis Morales emphasised that playing for Villarreal is a great challenge on a personal level and an opportunity that he couldn’t let get away

José Luis Morales was presented this Thursday as a new Villarreal CF footballer. The new signing, accompanied by president Fernando Roig, appeared in front of the media, speaking publicly for the first time since joining the Yellow Submarine.

He started the press conference by thanking the club for the trust shown in him: “I want to thank the club for this chance. I’m very happy to be able to take this big step in my career. I’m joining a club that’s growing season by season and that competes among the best clubs in Europe. I couldn’t let the chance of playing here get away from me, for a club that was among the best four teams in Europe last year.”

Morales underlined that he joins Villarreal full of excitement and that forming part of the Yellow Submarine is a great chance: “I can’t wait to get to work and be able to help the team. Hopefully we have a great season. I wanted to continue growing on a personal level, as well as on a professional one, and joining Villarreal was a great chance that I had to capitalise on. I think that I’m going to experience feelings that I haven’t yet experienced as a footballer.”

The attacker emphasised that his signing for the Yellows will be a challenge on a professional level: “I wanted to have a new challenge and take a step forward. Here, we have very good players, who I will learn a lot from. I want to test myself and se ethe level that I can reach in a team like Villarreal. It’s a great challenge and I’m going to fight to help the team as much as possible.”

Regarding his aims, Morales prefers to not set himself long-term goals and instead trying to enjoy being part of his new team: “I want to be at my best, help the team and enjoy the day to day, working hard in each training session. I want to have minutes on the pitch. I know that it will be difficult, because there are players of a high level here. I have to adapt and be capable of giving my best. The rest of our aims we will see as the season goes on.”

To conclude, the most recent signing recognised that he’s joining Villarreal at an exciting time: “On a professional level, aged 35, I’m joining a team that’s playing in Europe. Now, I need to show that I’m at my best. This chance has come to me in the closing stages of my career. Whenever they arrive, you need to capitalise on your opportunities.”
