On Saturday Russian Denis Cheryshev played for the first time after being out injured for four months
Villarreal’s Russian centre midfielder, Denis Cheryshev, returned to the field of play against Málaga last Saturday. The Yellows number 7 played his first minutes of the season having spent more than four months out injured after an operation. “It’s true that I was a bit lost at first. I’m very grateful to my teammates because they support me and this is vital for a player to fit in quicker. I’m trying to get back to my best as quickly as possible. I am feeling better and better, although I’m still not at competition level, but it’s something I hope will sort itself out bit by bit”.
Cheryshev also analysed the team’s performance at the start of the season: “I think we have a great team. We drew the first two matches, but the other day we got our first win. The team is improving and we hope to continue like this, because the team always works so hard”.
With regard to this Thursday’s match against FC Zürich, the Yellows midfielder expressed his excitement for this new challenge. “For us the Europa League is a really exciting competition, as it has given us a lot in past stages. We know that we have to approach it with maximum passion and enthusiasm. Two years ago against Zürich we lost and it wasn’t an easy match”.
The Russian also wanted to talk about his return to the Submarine: “On a personal level I am very happy to get back to playing and to be here in Villarreal. I feel at home and the club has always made me feel like this from day one”.
Lastly, the midfielder wanted to highlight the team unity and inclusion in the Yellows dressing room: “It’s true that we’re a team that have known each other for a long time now and the new players that have come in are working really well. In the end, the word team is the most important thing, we all have to be going in the same direction”.
