Unai Emery highlighted his team’s motivation for facing a direct rival, such as Sevilla FC (Tuesday, 5pm CET)
Villarreal CF head coach Unai Emery appeared in a remote press conference this morning to analyse the build-up to the league tie with Sevilla FC at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán (Tuesday, 5pm CET): “They’re going to demand a lot from us. It is going to be a 90-minute match where our challenge is to see where we’re at in relation to a direct rival, such as Sevilla FC. We’re ahead in the table, but they have two games in hand. It’s a challenge that excites us.”
The Yellows manager underlined the difficulty of the upcoming opponent, and the level of sides coaches by their current coach Julen Lopetegui: “His teams have a really defined style. As well as being competitive and winners, they have a great touch of football stye. That’s Sevilla FC, a team with veteran players, and youngsters, a team that shows maturity in a tremendous stadium.”
Emery also underlined that it will be an attractive match for the spectators: “Tomorrow is a great game, because 90 minutes in LaLiga between Sevilla and Villarreal is a flagship game, it will attract attention because what both clubs represent.”
Finally, the Basque coach underlined the need to keep demanding a lot during this stage of the season: “We can’t stop and think of praise. We could think that we’re unbeaten, but draws are punishing us. That’s what we need to demand of ourselves. We want to improve and grow daily, and think that our ceiling is far away still. We will try and not find our ceiling, because there are always things that can improve.”
