The Villarreal Women head coach has called on the Yellows fans to get behind the team ahead of the first Primera Iberdrola team to be played at the Mini Estadi (Sunday, 11am CEST)

Sara Monforte appeared in front of the media this lunchtime to analyse Villarreal Women’s next game against SD Eibar (11am CEST, Villarreal Live). The Yellows go into the second matchday of the Primera Iberdrola season after drawing their league opener in Huelva. Against Eibar, Monforte’s side will play in front of their fans, in the Mini Estadi at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva), which will host a game in the top flight of Spanish women’s football for the first time.

Excitement

“We are playing at home, and for us, it’s a dream to play at the Mini, and we’re very lucky. The players are very excited and motivated. Playing on natural grass is good for us, you could see that in pre-season. Hopefully on Sunday as many people as possible can come. The fans being with us is extremely important to get something positive.”

The opposition

“SD Eibar are a team who haven’t changed their squad a lot. They have very few new arrivals, but the coaching staff has changed. There has been a big change for them, because last year, they played with a low block and this year, they’re taking more control. The manager is also doing a great job, they have a winning mentality. I’m convinced that they’ll come here trying to get the three points, because after beating Sevilla, they will come here full of motivation. They have very quick players up front. They’re a team that is good in transitions, they liked to have the ball and play.”

Keys to the match

“It will be a very tight game. A lot of battles, and a long game, like in Huelva. When we have chances, we need to capitalise on them. We have more resources, a bigger squad than them, and we can make more changes. The team who knows how to play their cards best will win, the team that is more focused and the team that is stronger. I don’t think it will be over going into the closing stages.”
