The Yellows get a point thanks to Joseda Menargues’ long-range effort
Villarreal B earned a hard-earned point on their visit to the Nuevo Mirador in Algeciras in an intense match. The home side took the lead with a Diego Esteban goal in the first half, but in the second half the Mini Submarine equalised with a long-range strike from Joseda (1-1).
The Yellows started the game dominating. In fact, Miguel Álvarez’s side had three clear chances to score in the opening minutes.
First, Etta Eyong missed the keeper after a trickery by captain Tiago, who quickly took a free-kick to leave the Cameroonian striker alone in the box. The ball did not go in thanks to a save from the Algeciras goalkeeper.
Shortly afterwards, Tiago Geralnik was again in the spotlight when he narrowly missed a cross from Victor, while a second later it was Victor himself who shot hard across the face of goal and again found the gloves of the Algeciras keeper.
Algeciras made no mistake and scored the first goal of the game. It was a move down the left flank that ended with the ball at the feet of Diego Esteban. The home No.10 beat Iker Álvarez and sent the home fans wild in the 27th minute.
The Yellows equaliser came at the start of the second half. Joseda Menargues unleashed a tremendous right-footed shot from distance that flew into the Algeciras goal (m.54), a tremendous strike from the Villarreal B right-back!
Throughout the second 45 minutes both teams had the chance to score, although the scoreboard would not move any more.
Villarreal B’s next game will also be away against AD Mérida (Sunday, 3:30pm CEST).
