Villarreal CF head coach, Marcelino García Toral, has appeared before the media to analyse the preview of the derby against Valencia CF, corresponding to Matchday 4 of the 2024/25 LALIGA EA Sports season, which will be held this Saturday, at 9:30pm CEST at Mestalla.
In his first statement, the Yellows coach has expressed his frustration at the numerous absentees with which the Groguets will face the match in Valencia but is hoping to go into the international break with a win: “We are not in the situation we would like to be in because of all the absentees we have, but the competition is like that and it leads to these kinds of circumstances. But we want to get points before the break. We know it will be a difficult game, but we face it with the utmost enthusiasm. We know that Mestalla is never an easy ground and we’ve seen that on our last few visits there.”
The Submarine go into the clash on the back of an excellent start to the league campaign, while Valencia have yet to win with a point from their first three games. Despite this, Marcelino is not complacent: “We can’t exaggerate situations. So far, Valencia CF have played two away games against Celta and Athletic and one at home against Barcelona. The reality is that at home they are a very strong team. It’s logical for them to remain calm because this has only just begun. In general terms it will be a very difficult game regardless of what has happened so far in LALIGA.”
Similarly, Marcelino congratulated Yeremy and Ayoze on their call-up to the Spanish national team: “It’s a huge satisfaction. As head coaches, we enjoy the fact that the players are going to their respective national teams. It’s a source of pride for them to be called up. I wish them all the best.”
