Villarreal Women head coach Sara Monforte has analysed the Yellows’ next opponents (Saturday, 4pm CET)
Villarreal Women head coach Sara Monforte appeared in front of the media to analyse the upcoming match against Valencia CF (Saturday, 4pm CET) at the Mini Estadi at the Villarreal CF Training Ground. Here are some of the key points from her press conference:
Deserved reward against Levante UD
“What changed was the outcome. We had put in some good performances, but we hadn’t been rewarded for them. I think the team needed that, which is something I’d said in previous weeks. I knew the three points would come, and honestly, they came at a difficult place to get them. Levante UD were still unbeaten at home and we put in a great performance, where the players gave their all. We trust them a lot, and the players trust in their own abilities too. We’re working well and now we need to try and show continuity. We need to continue working hard, competing how we’ve been competing so far, and using the win to strengthen us as a team and to gain confidence.”
The key to the upcoming match
“Both of us are in an area of the table where it’s difficult to be, but we both have needed. It will be another Valencian derby. Valencia CF are a team who press a lot, who are defensively intense. At the end of the day, what will most determine the outcome will be whoever manages to impose their game plan more, and who has more luck in front of goal.”
Improvements
“What we’ve improved in recent weeks has been having fewer unforced errors, and making it a lot harder for the opposition to score against us. We’ve had a few matches where we’ve still had a clean sheet around the 80th minute. I think that’s something that goes in our favour, and will determine our chances of getting points. We’re also arriving in the opposition box more, and being more clinical in front of goal.”
A call to the fans
“Villarreal CF fans are supporters of Villarreal CF. It’s one badge, one feeling, and it doesn’t matter who is playing. For us, it’s not a match that will determine our season, I think we have a lot more to win and a lot less to lose, but if we get the three points, it would be very important. Getting six points in two matches would give us a lot of confidence. Whenever the players see fans cheering them on, it gives them an extra push, and that’s crucial for us, even more so in a derby like this.”
