The Yellows striker is the only Spanish football who has scored more than 30 goals in a calendar year since 2015
Gerard Moreno is the top-scoring Spanish striker of 2021. The Villarreal player has scored a total of 32 goals, 31 with the Yellows (21 in LaLiga, seven in the UEFA Europa League, one in the UEFA Champions League, one in the UEFA Super Cup and one in the Copa del Rey) and one with Spain (in a World Cup qualifier).
Apart from the Yellows No.7, no Spanish striker has reached the 30-goal mark in the last five years. The previous person to do so was Aritz Aduriz, who scored 38 goals for Athletic Club in 2015.
Gerard’s perfect year
2021 will always be remembered by Gerard, who won the UEFA Europa League as the top scorer in the competition, also being named the player of the tournament. Also, on a personal level, he received the Zarra Trophy for being the top Spanish scorer in LaLiga, he won the UEFA Super Cup Player of the Match and was part of the 30-man shortlist for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award.
If that wasn’t enough, in 2021, Gerard Moreno also became the top scorer of all time for Villarreal CF in professional football. The Catalan striker has scored 92 goals for the Yellows, overtaking Giuseppe Rossi, who found the back of the net 82 times for the Submarine.
