Quique Setién has assured that the break was useful to improve certain aspects of the group

Villarreal CF head coach Quique Setién spoke to the media in the press room at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground. The Submarine play two friendlies this week against Aston Villa (Thursday, 9pm CET) and Napoli (Saturday, 8:30pm CET) and the coach took the opportunity to analyse the current situation of the squad. These are the most remarkable statements of Setién:

Current situation of the team

“This time has been very good for us and the games we are playing have been even better because, regardless of the result, what we are interested in is acquiring these modifications and concepts that we are now integrating into the team’s dynamic. We are working and trying to understand and coordinate certain movements that will allow us to be more effective.”

Improvements in certain areas

“From the first game we played until now we have improved quite a few things, others we have maintained and in other areas we are finding it difficult to be more consistent for 90 minutes. The opponent is an important factor and we have had opponents who have challenged us a lot. The important thing is that the ideas we are trying to put forward can be seen more often and better on the pitch.”

Match against Aston Villa

“For me the game has no morbidity beyond the importance it has for us. It’s a game that will be very good for us and that will be demanding, like the previous two. These are friendlies that prepare us well because they take us to a real situation in which we could find ourselves in matches like the one against Guijuelo, Valencia or Madrid.”

Satisfied with the team’s work

“I’m happy with the team’s work. It’s true that we still need to improve certain aspects if we want to be at the top. I am satisfied with the attitude and involvement of the players and this is something very important because I have always believed that if you improve the players individually, you automatically improve the performance of the team.”

Gerard Moreno

“He is a player who interprets his position very well. He can play as a No.9, but he is a very intelligent player who knows when to be in different areas of the pitch. The important thing is that his movements are interpreted by his teammates to take advantage of the spaces he creates. I see him in any position he is going to play.”
