Villarreal Women’s earn themselves a deserved draw in the last minute
Sara Monforte’s side came out of the blocks with a high level of pressure on Athletic Club, making it difficult for the Basque side to get the ball out of their half.
After several minutes of high intensity, it was the lionesses who had the first shot on goal of the match, but Elena de Toro saved well. The ‘groguetes’ went into the break with several chances on goal. The most notable was a one-on-one from Sheila that was saved by Mariasun Quiñones. The rebound fell to Belén who was unable to get her shot on target.
It was in the second half that the first goal of the game arrived. After Lucía García’s shot hit the post, the ball fell to Pinedo in a dubious position and she scored into an empty net.
The Yellows kept trying and in the last play of the game, Estefa finished off a free-kick into the box to give Sara Monforte’s side a deserved point.
