The Yellows boss highlighted the Submarine’s ability to compete against Barça
In the postmatch press conference, Villarreal Manager, Fran Escribá, said Barcelona’s second goal just before the break was a big blow for his side, who he believes competed well against a great team. “To be fair, they deserved the win because they created more chances, but we competed well. The second goal just before half time really hurt us and I think the result is excessive considering both teams’ performances. We competed well in general, although we would have liked to have strung more passes together. At all times the team were thinking about getting a positive result, we never gave up and, until 3-1, we were still creating chances”.
For the Yellows boss, it’s key to focus on the Deportivo match now, the Submarin’es next rival at the Estadio de la Cerámica (Sunday 14th, 8pm CET). “Thinking about fourth place would have been a luxury, but our option is the Europa League. It’s so difficult to win here. All year we’ve had a European spot withput playoffs in our hands. Now we have to think about the Deportivo match as they’re three really important points for our objective. Our priority is to finish strong”.
