Emery: “We didn’t know how to see out the game”

The Villarreal head coach underlined that the team need to continue to work hard to return to winning ways

Villarreal head coach Unai Emery appeared in front of the media to analyse the draw at the Estadio Martínez Valero (2-2). The Basque manager recognised that the team did not perform well in the second half: “The second half should have seen us see out the match, but we failed to do that for 20 minutes, and they knew how to capitalise. They pushed us high up and found the formula to overcome us.”

Despite the draw, Emery wanted to underlined the impressive first half performance: “At the start, we were good, you could see us performing really well with Gerard Moreno back. Without him, we lacked a reference point up front. We need to continue to work on finding solutions for when he isn’t playing.”

He also thought the point was not good enough, and emphasised that the team needs to start winning again soon: “We’re not losing, but the draws are holding us back in terms of being towards the top of the table. We need to start winning consistently. There is no other option but working hard until we manage to do so. We have a lot we can improve on.”
