The Yellows head coach celebrated getting into the UEFA Europa League final, and dedicated it to the fans

Villarreal head coach Unai Emery appeared remotely in front of the press after a historic moment where the Yellows got through to the UEFA Europa League final: “Getting to a final is really happy moment. I’m extremely pleased with the team and ver proud of this project. The club is recognised internationally but we needed to take that step and play in a final. It was an extremely tough task, but we did it.”

The Yellows manager hailed his team’s defensive work, despite the aim being to score at the Arsenal Stadium: “We put in a great performance in the first leg. Especially in the first half. Going into the second leg with the score at 2-1, it was very tight and we were mentally ready that here we needed to do something important. Our aim was to score. We didn’t manage to do that, but we didn’t concede either, and that has taken us to the final.”

Finally, Emery recognised that he feels very proud to represent the club: “Villarreal are a club that have broken a lot of barriers throughout history. They did it when they were promoted to the top flight, they got to semi-finals, they finished second in LaLiga. Now we’ve broken another barrier. That has a lot of merit. The club has a great project, and a town that is behind this team.”
