The Yellow’s boss told the press that Granada are a competitive team with great quality

Villarreal manager, Unai Emery, appeared remotely before the media to analyse the upcoming game against Granada CF (Saturday, 2pm CEST).

“The international break has allowed us to work more calmly”

“You never know how the international break will go, but we try to keep the atmosphere positive around the club. It’s given lots of players suffering with persistent injuries the opportunity to recover as they train more calmly, without the demands of competition. We wanted to recover our energy and get as many players back to full fitness as possible.”

A chance to strengthen the grip on European spots

“Our most immediate challenge is the game against Granada. We want to finish in European places this season, and on Saturday we have a great opportunity to pick up three points and look upwards. It won’t be decisive, but it will help us on our current trajectory.”

A difficult, competitive game

“It will be a very tough game. Granada are a fantastic team, and we drew with them at home in a challenging, open game. We could have put the game to bed, but we didn’t. They’re very competitive, have great players, and have fantastic belief, knowing exactly what they need to do to establish themselves amongst the top teams. They’re very capable of making things difficult for any opposition.”

Granada, hard-working and competitive

“They are a team who compete well, knowing how to manage a game and create goalscoring opportunities. We’re up against a team who will demand a lot of us. We want to win the game, but it’s not going to be easy. Granada are a team who play to their strengths well and are in a positive mindset at the moment. It’s a game that provides a lot of incentive for both teams, and so it will not be easy for either side.”

An opponent on an upward trajectory

“They are a team who have done very well this season. In the Copa Del Rey, they went out to Barcelona, but gave a good image of themselves. In the Europa League, they are writing an incredible story, keeping their dreams alive, on top of competing really well in LaLiga, getting closer to European spots.”
