The Villarreal head coach believes in the Yellows’ chances against Atlético de Madrid
A big challenge, but an exciting one too. Villarreal CF head coach Unai Emery underlined his hope ahead of the important tie this Sunday against Atlético de Madrid at the Estadio de la Cerámica this Sunday (9pm CET). The Yellows host the current LaLiga leaders. “Atlético de Madrid are a very solid team with great attacking capability, even more so with Luis Suárez. They have been using different systems during the same match. It will be key to take control of the game and impose ourselves in the duels. Then we need to be clinical with the few chances we will get. They have very few weaknesses, and if they’re on form, they have none. We will need to overcome a lot of obstacles, but I see the team in a good place. It’s a big challenge, but an exciting one too,” analysed Emery.
Villarreal go into the game on the back of a win over FC Salzburg in the Europa League: “LaLiga is the priority. We want to go far in Europe, but what is most important is performing well across the 38 LaLiga games. Now we’ve got a visit from the leaders, who rarely lose. It’s an exciting opportunity,” underlined the Basque manager.
Regarding the UEFA Europa League draw, Emery said the following about Dynamo Kyiv: “They are a team that have dropped into the competition from the Champions League, managed by Lucescu, who is a manager everyone looks up to. They are a tough opponent, but I am sure it will be a nice tie. We are excited about the Europa League, but we need to go step by step, and now it’s time to focus on LaLiga.”
