The Basque manager does not want any surprises in the Copa del Rey tie against Atlético Sanluqueño
Villarreal head coach Unai Emery appeared in front of the media to analyse the upcoming Copa del Rey game against Atlético Sanluqueño tomorrow (Wednesday, 15th December) at 9pm CET. Here are some of the standout points:
Hoping for a cup win after victories in LaLiga and Europe
“We’re fighting on three fronts, but we’re always looking at the most immediate situation, and what we have in front of us. Yesterday, we confirmed our place in the Round of 16 of the Champions League with the draw. We had to change our opponent, but for us, I think there’s not much between the two of them. We changed a very difficult opponent, who are playing at a high level, for another one who are very difficult to face too and also playing at a high level. We’re there because the team deserves to be there. We also can’t forget about LaLiga, and we’re seeing where we can be to move up the table, get more points and get a better feeling. Then, there’s the cup, a small competition, but an intense one and a tough one. The teams from Primera RFEF can surprise you. They’re a team who will be backed by their fans, and they will want to enjoy their moment. We want to aspire to compete for the cup against the main favourites. We are going to play a lot of games in not very many days and we need all of our players to be at their best.”
Maximum respect for the opposition
“I’m expecting a game that will be either tough or very tough. It will depend on how the adapt to what we want to impose, if they can deal with that or not, the tempo of the game, and how they set up. They have players who have played in the higher divisions, even in the top flight, and they’ve got a good management setup with their coach. They’ve looked good in their league against tough sides. It will not be easy to overcome them. There are always surprises against opposition like this and we don’t want that to be us. In 90 minutes, anything can happen, and we don’t want to underestimate anything.”
