Villarreal B beat Real Oviedo late on with an Mbacke goal in added time
Villarreal B managed to beat Real Oviedo (2-1) thanks to a last minute goal from Mbacke. Miguel Álvarez’s side gained momentum with this important win and moved seven points clear of the relegation zone.
The Yellows went into this vital game with the ambition of taking all three points, which could open up a significant gap on the relegation zone. In the opening stages, Oviedo had a couple of chances, but without creating much danger.
After this start, the Yellows improved by finding more of the ball. This control led to the first shot on goal of the game by Javi Ontiveros, which ended up in the hands of the away goalkeeper. Oviedo did not give up and after a few minutes of domination from the Yellows, they had a clear chance in the boots of Obeng, which was deflected wide for a corner.
The last few minutes of the first half were controlled by the Mini Submarine, although without any great chances except for Juan Carlos Arana’s shot in the 31st minute, which very nearly ended in a goal. Both teams went to the changing rooms with it all square both in goals (0-0) and in sensations.
After a delay due to technical problems with the VAR room, the referee started the second half seven minutes later than expected. The early stages of the second half followed the same tone as the first, with Yellows dominating, but without any great chances to score, except for a corner after Del Moral’s shot (min. 49). Even so, the Asturian side continued to arrive infrequently, but with danger and, in one of these arrivals, Ghana’s Obeng scored the 0-1 from a corner taken by Montoro, which made things difficult for the Submarine’s reserve team.

The early stages followed the same tone as before half-time, with Yellows dominating, but without any great chances to score, except for a corner after Alberto del Moral’s shot (min. 49). Villarreal B tried to turn the score around and moved several metres forward. After a cross from Ontiveros, the rebound fell to Antonio Pacheco, who shot hard but low into the hands of TNadal. The sensations continued to improve and, after a corner by Ontiveros and a shot by Mbacke that was cleared off the line, Arana headed home to make it 1-1 (. 62). Álvarez then made three changes to try to get the win.
These changes gave the team some freshness and the Yellows managed to get the ball in the back of the next thanks to a great shot by Álex Forés, but it was disallowed for offside. The striker was very much involved in the game and had another great effort that ended in a corner.
The Yellows kept trying, but were consistently denied by Oviedo, who were stubborn at the back. After a lot of persistence, the Mini Submarine managed to turn the score around after a good team move that ended in a cross that was sent in by Diego Collado and ended up being put into the back of the net by the Mbacke. Villarreal B took three golden points that put the team on twenty points, seven above the relegation zone.
Next up for the Mini Submarine is an away game this Saturday 5th November at 6:30pm CET at El Alcoraz against SD Huesca.
