Villarreal CF have given Moi Gómez the golden badge, after he reached the 200-mark for Villarreal, in the same season where his ten seasons at the Submarine were celebrated. Formed in the Yellows Academy, his first match with Villarreal’s first team was on 28th August 2011, and since then he has played 222 matches, scoring 19 goals (including yesterday’s goal at the Camp Nou).

The club wanted to also pay tribute to Gerard Moreno for his 212 matches with Villarreal by giving him the golden badge. His 95 goals make him the Submarine’s top scorer of all time at the elite level. Wearing yellow, he has won the UEFA Europa League, and has represented Spain, and has even been nominated for the Ballon d’Or.

The golden badge was also awarded to Sergio Asenjo. The 32-year-old is the goalkeeper to have played most matches for Villarreal, and while representing the Yellows, he was even called up for a European Championships with Spain. He has been at the club for nine seasons, playing 258 matches and being part of big successes, such as our first European title. He is also an example of how to overcome adversity, leaving various serious injuries behind him.
