The Mini Submarine deserved more in a hard-fought match at El Plantío
Villarreal B were narrowly defeated in a very even match in which an early goal in the opening stages tipped the scales in favour of Burgos CF (1-0), who were very solid in defence. Even so, the Yellows fought until the end, but without reward.
Things got tough early on with Artola’s early goal after just seven minutes, which was a big blow for the Mini Submarine, although there was still plenty of time to fight for a comeback.
The Yellows did not give up and Diego Collado could have equalised a few minutes later, but Caro’s good save prevented the equaliser. Fer Niño’s goal was later disallowed for an offside.
After the restart, Miguel Álvarez made the first two substitutions and switched to a back four, bringing on Lozano and Migue Leal for Carreira and Abraham to play the entire second half.
Villarreal B opted to keep moving the ball, but the attacks were too static due to the quick retreating Burgos side. Crosses from Carlos Romero and Ontiveros almost found their way into Caro’s goal. In extra time, Forés and Dela, already on the attack, had the equaliser in their boots.
The Mini Submarine were unable to break down the home wall and fell at El Plantío. The next match of the reserve team will take place next Sunday at 2pm CEST at the Estadio de la Cerámica against Real Sporting.
