Cuenca: “We are looking forward to playing again”

The defender underlined that the team is excited and eager to adapt to Quique Setién’s ideas

Villarreal centre-back Jorge Cuenca has appeared before the media to analyse the team’s return to work, after the holiday period corresponding to the break for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The key points he made are:

Assessment of the season

“The balance is positive. We are involved in all competitions and fighting for the objectives in LaLiga. The fans are very confident.”

An atypical month

“With the arrival of the new coach, the injuries and the World Cup, it’s been an atypical month, but that’s football. They give you new experiences and it’s good to adapt to these things. I think the team will come out of this stronger.”

The World Cup break

“I wouldn’t know how it’s going to affect us. We’ve been training for two days and it’s not yet time to start the competitions again. As the month goes by, we’ll see how it goes and we’ll know what our feelings are.”

Hard work in the break

“From what we are working on, things are going to go well. The team is adapting well and is taking on board the coach’s ideas. We have plenty of time to adapt to his methods. I see the group very willing to learn and with a lot of confidence.”

Returning to the Estadio de la Cerámica

“It could be a very nice second half of the season. We have to push harder to give the fans something to cheer about at this new ground.”

The return of Gerard Moreno

“He’s a fundamental part of the team, he’s a very important reference in the end. We’re all looking forward to him coming back and doing better than ever.”

Looking forward to competing again

“We’re looking forward to this pre-season and getting back to competition. I’m very confident and looking forward to playing again.”

Role with the new head coach

“I always see myself with options to fight for everything. I give my all and I think I will have options. I’m happy at the club, I have to keep growing little by little. It’s been a good first part of the season, I’ve played my part in achieving the team’s objectives.”
