Villarreal B mathematically secure a play-off spot after a convincing win over Sevilla Atlético
Villarreal B are officially a play-off team. The Yellows brilliantly sealed their place in the promotion play-offs to Segunda División after a convincing 2-0 victory over Sevilla Atlético thanks to goals from Albert García and Nizar. Reliable, disciplined and fully focused, David Albelda’s side are enjoying an outstanding season.
The Yellows started calmly and with a clear game plan against a Sevilla Atlético side that, despite already being mathematically relegated, remained lively and determined to compete throughout. After a couple of dangerous attacks, Albert García capitalised on a poor Sevilla Atlético build-up to go through one-on-one with the goalkeeper and fire home powerfully for 1-0.
The second arrived in the 26th minute when, following a quick break, Budesca picked out Nizar from the right and the winger, after setting himself perfectly on the edge of the area, rifled a superb strike into the top corner to make it 2-0 for Albelda’s men.
With the lead established, the match entered a more comfortable phase for the Yellow Submarine. The hosts created a string of chances through Gaitán, Hugo López and Nizar, but the scoreline remained unchanged.
To cap off a perfect evening, striker Pau Cabanes returned to action, making his first appearance in a long time after recovering from a cruciate ligament injury.
Villarreal B’s next – and final – match of the regular Primera Federación season will take place next Saturday at 6:30pm against Atlético Sanluqueño at the Estadio El Palmar in Cádiz.
