Villarreal B beat Hércules (1-0) and extend their play-off advantage to five points
Villarreal B once again showed they are in outstanding form and, thanks to a goal from Hugo López, defeated Hércules at the Mini Estadi (1-0) following an excellent all-round team performance from David Albelda’s side.
Every line, from goalkeeper to forwards, functioned like a perfectly tuned machine as the B team picked up another three points. With the win, Villarreal B remain fourth and extend their advantage in the play-off places to five points.
It was an evenly contested first half, with Hércules looking to trouble Albelda’s side and the Yellows playing in a composed, disciplined and well-structured manner. While the hosts pressed high during the build-up, the visitors looked to create danger through quick passing combinations.
The Yellows’ pressure and organisation paid off in the 26th minute, when Diatta won the ball high up the pitch after a poor clearance from Hércules and immediately slipped a pass through for Hugo López, who made no mistake in the one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
The visitors maintained their intensity in the second half, but Villarreal B were not prepared to give an inch. Rubén Gómez was once again one of the standout performers with two outstanding saves, while Albert García struck the post in the 58th minute, but the scoreline remained unchanged.
Villarreal B’s next match will be against CE Europa on Sunday 10th May at 4:30pm CEST at Can Dragó, in what promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the round, with fourth place facing fifth – the final two play-off spots.
