The Villarreal manager underlined his satisfaction at the team’s attitude and performance
Villarreal manager Javi Calleja appeared in front of the press to analyse the Submarine’s convincing win against Comillas CF (0-5) in the First Round of the Copa del Rey: “We showed the best version of ourselves. I’m going away happy with the image we showed, the attitude and the hard work of the team. The performance was very good. Beyond the goals, we had a number of chances and we didn’t let our opponent have anything.”
The head coach valued his side’s motivation for the cup tie: “Against big sides like Atlético Madrid or Sevilla, it’s easy to stay motivated. We wanted to go into the game against Comillas with that same attitude. We were hoping to show the same competitive level that we showed in recent games and that’s what we did.”
Finally, Calleja congratulated Migue Leal and Álex Baena for their first-team debuts. “Both them and [Sergio] Lozano put in a good game. They did everything we asked them to. It’s important that players make their debuts and that they can help us when the team needs it.”
