The Yellows captain charged his batteries over the league break and is already thinking about San Mamés
Batteries charged. After the league break, Bruno Soriano is already thinking about going to cause a stir against Athletic in San Mamés (Sunday, 8:45pm CET). “We always play well against Athletic. They are a direct rival for us with great players. We will have to be very attentive, as they will have to be of us”, he explained.
For Bruno, the key to the match is to equal the Basque side’s level of intensity: “They always come out very intense, especially at their stadium. They try to pin you back in to your box. We expect a tough match, but we will have options. They have many weapons, but we can also do them damage”. He also stressed how strong their striker is. “They have a dangerous aerial game. Aduriz is a very difficult forward to mark and they also have other quick, dynamic players”, he added.
The midfielder from Artana has made the most of the league break to “wind down and rest”, words not usually associated with the captain. He only missed the first LaLiga Santander match (against Granada) due to injury and was substituted against Celta 8 minutes from the end. Apart from that, he has played every minute in domestic and UEFA Europa league competitions, giving even more value to his performance. “We’re all resting and eating well and that’s fundamental. Things are going well and that’s good. In other teams the same players always play. I always say to the Manager, whatever decision he makes I’ll accept it. If I have to rest I’ll accept that, because the team is the most important thing”.
The Yellows Submarine’s style of play has evolved: “Before we would score a goal and then get pushed back more. Now we have more possession of the ball and we’ve played some spectacular matches, above all at El Madrigal”, he affirmed. Defensively, the team has only got better. “The best defenders are those with the fewest cards. We are a solid team and our opponents struggle to create goal scoring opportunities against us”.
To finish, Bruno talked about Trigueros renewing his contract until 2022: “Manu’s contract extension is great news. He is a fantastic footballer, intelligent and very professional. He has taken a step forward and the team appreciates that. I see myself a bit in him and Rodri because they have also come up from the Academy and are really eager to do well”.
